What a fractional CTO from LL Cloud does
- Technical roadmap. What to build, in what order, and what to deliberately leave for later. Written down, reviewed monthly.
- Architecture decisions. Cloud provider, database, monolith or services, build or buy. We review the big ones before they are made, not after they hurt.
- Hiring. Job descriptions that attract seniors, technical interviews, and an honest read of the Greek engineering market.
- Vendors and cost. Picking tools and contractors, negotiating cloud credits and commitments, and keeping the cloud bill proportional to revenue.
- Investors and customers. Technical due diligence, security questionnaires, architecture diagrams for the data room, and the calls where someone needs to answer "how does it scale?"
- Hands-on when it counts. We are engineers first. When the platform needs work, our team can build it, which is something most advisors can't offer.
How it works
- First month: get the full picture. We meet the team, read the code and the cloud setup (usually through our one-week audit), and agree a 90-day plan with you.
- Every week after that: a fixed rhythm. A planning session with you, time with the engineers, and async availability for decisions that can't wait.
- Every quarter: a review. Is the plan working, is the team growing the way it should, and is it time to hire a full-time CTO? When it is, we help you find and onboard them.
Who it is for
- Non-technical founders building a software product who need someone they can trust with technical decisions.
- Startups whose first engineers are great at shipping but have never had to plan architecture, hiring and security at the same time.
- Companies between CTOs, or whose CTO needs a senior second opinion on infrastructure and operations.
Fractional, interim or full-time?
A fractional CTO works part of the week, ongoing. An interim CTO is full-time for a fixed period, usually while you hire. A full-time CTO makes sense once technology decisions fill a whole week and you can attract someone senior with salary and equity. We wrote a longer comparison: fractional vs full-time CTO in Greece.
Frequently asked questions
How many hours a week does a fractional CTO work?
It depends on the stage. Most early-stage companies need a few hours a week of planning and decisions plus availability for urgent calls; companies going through a funding round or a big build need more. We agree the rhythm in the first month and adjust it quarterly.
How much does a fractional CTO cost?
Less than a full-time senior hire, because you only pay for the time you need. We quote a monthly fee based on how involved you need us to be. Email [email protected] with a few lines about your company and we will reply with a proposal.
Is a fractional CTO the same as CTO as a service?
They are used interchangeably. Some firms use "CTO as a service" for a team rather than one person. With LL Cloud you get a senior lead backed by our engineering team, so it is a bit of both.
Will you write code or only advise?
Both. Advice is the core of the role, but when the platform, CI/CD or cloud setup needs work our team can do it, so decisions don't stall waiting for a hire.
When should we hire a full-time CTO instead?
When technical decisions and team leadership fill a full week, and you can offer a senior candidate a competitive package. We help you get there, including writing the role and interviewing candidates.
Do you work with startups outside Greece?
Yes. We work remotely with teams across the EU, in English and Greek. Athens is one hour ahead of Central European Time.
